Here I am on the official Haw Par Villa Facebook page, introducing my favourite set of dioramas in Haw Par Villa - the 10 Courts of Hell!

Here’s what I shared:

“Hello everyone, I’m Eisen, a Senior Researcher from the Singapore History Consultants Pte Ltd.

My favourite set of dioramas in Haw Par Villa is the infamous 10 Courts of Hell.

To me, the 10 Courts is a wonderful, artistic representation of an abstract set of ideas, a combination of Hindu, Taoist, Buddhist, and Confucian concepts - more than a thousand years old.

It’s a fitting warning to all that there is no escape from the consequences of one’s actions.”

My dad and I, searching for my paternal grandfather’s grave in Bukit Brown.

Bit by bit, I will unearth my heritage and discover a little bit more about myself.

Alas, we did not find the grave - we could not even reach the part of the cemetery my father thinks he was buried in - but I’m not giving up. The search will continue!

I’m pleasantly surprised. My first-ever army reservist deferment application - and it was successful!

Now, I will not need to attend the upcoming two-week reservist stint in January - instead, I will be freed up to head a very important project for my company. More details to come!
